The latest WOC bike is on the road...

The latest WOC Bike Program bike - and the first since our return from Europe - is on the road. Beau will ride it almost 7 miles one way to work, sometimes late at night. We equipped his bike with lights for the dark rides and fenders for the upcoming winter's slush. Best wishes, Beau!

Some comments...

Recently we checked in with some past recipients of WOC Bike Program bikes to see how they were doing and how they liked their bikes. Here are some of the responses we received:

Ashley is still riding
[her bike] and loving it. She's moved out on her own and the bike is still her means of transportation. We very much appreciate the generosity. I'll have her respond next time I see her. Take care. -Brian (Ashley's father.)

It doesn't seem possible that it has been a year already. I love the bicycle and have used it frequently. My grandson and I love to ride together and we have had some great experiences. Thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much for your kindness in giving me the bicycle. Your program is wonderful!! -Darleen

It's good to hear from you. I still definitely still have the bike. I love it! It gets me around just the way I needed. I have gotten much faster then when I first got the bike. ...I really appreciate what you guys did for me. I hope everything is going good on your end. Best of wishes to you and yours. -Levi

Thanks for checking in about Raul... he still has the bike and is loving it. He takes good care of it and uses it for the most part on a daily basis. Thanks again for your help with that... -Chad (Missionary and friend of a nine-year-old boy in Mexico to whom we sent a bike.)

It's great to know the bikes are still being used and have made a difference in these folks' lives. We can't wait to get more bikes out there soon!

Resurrecting the Bike Program

Due to a lack of funding over the summer, the WOC Bike Program sort of stopped for a while. But program founders Joey and Sandhya are back in Colorado after a summer of working abroad, and they're determined to push forward with the program, even if slowly. Many thanks to Mick and Andy for getting some bikes out this year... they donated not only their time, but also some of their own cash to keep it going for a while. It is much appreciated!

Longest-commute-yet award!

Zach is the latest guy on a WOC bike... he's going to commute almost 20 miles round-trip!  Here he is, with a little guy that looks suspiciously like Mick's son Finn in the background!  Mick and Andy are doing an awesome job getting bikes out on the road.  To contribute to their efforts, click on the Donate link to the right, or click on the Contact link to see if they need any other help.

A new bike with a new season!

Springtime in CoSprings means a new commuter bike for Calley Grace.  Mick and Andy set Calley up so that she could ride her three-mile commute instead of driving!  The perfect bike-to-work scenario.  Yet another on the road!

Meet Mick and Andy

Meet Mick and Andy (and Finn, the little guy at the bottom).  Mick (right) and Andy (left) will be running the WOC Bike Program through the summer of 2009, while program founders Joey and Sandhya are working in Europe.  These two are highly qualified bicycle mechanics and have a passion for getting people on bikes!  They both ride for transportation and are super-excited to get involved.  A sincere thanks from WOC to Mick and Andy - we truly appreciate their involvment.  It's going to be an awesome summer!

WOC goes international! (One-time deal.)

Just received this picture today - it's of Raul, a young man who lives in Mexico, with his Wheels Of Change bicycle. Generally we keep the WOC bikes in Colorado Springs, but a missionary based in the Springs contacted us with a special request for Raul. Raul was walking miles to and from school each day - until now. According to the missionary, Raul rides his bike all the time and loves it! We're more than happy to be able to help.
